Choosing Between Seacoast Rep, Jimmy’s, and Nearby Markets

Portsmouth’s launched inventory is concentrated in two rooms: Seacoast Repertory Theatre for scripted stage productions and Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club for live music nights built around bands and ensembles. If you want plays or musicals with fixed runs and set showtimes, you’ll be looking at Seacoast Rep’s calendar; if you want concerts, especially jazz and blues from touring or regional artists, Jimmy’s is the primary option.

If neither has something that fits your dates, you may need to widen your search to nearby Seacoast or Southern New Hampshire markets, since Portsmouth itself has a limited number of regularly programmed ticketed venues.

Theater at Seacoast Repertory Theatre

Seacoast Repertory Theatre is Portsmouth’s core venue for ticketed stage shows. It programs theatrical productions, so you’ll typically find runs of plays and musicals rather than one-off events. That makes it a strong option if you like planning a specific night around a show with a clear curtain time.

When you’re browsing what to see, look for current productions at Seacoast Rep and pay attention to whether a title is in the middle of its run or nearing closing, since that affects how many dates you can choose from. If you prefer narrative-driven performances, this is likely where you’ll spend most of your theater nights in Portsmouth.

Concerts at Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club in Portsmouth

Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club is a key stop in Portsmouth for live music, especially jazz and blues concerts. Instead of long theatrical runs, you’ll usually see one-night or short-run performances from bands, instrumentalists, and vocalists. If you’re planning a music-focused night out, start by checking which artists are booked at Jimmy’s on your preferred date.

Because shows are often single dates, it’s worth picking a night first, then scanning the calendar to see which concerts line up with your schedule.
