New York Yankees Venues
The New York Yankees are based in the New York City borough of the Bronx, and their current home is Yankee Stadium. The team moved into this modern version of Yankee Stadium in 2009, after the original ballpark next door was closed and later demolished.
Today’s stadium continues the franchise’s long association with the Bronx while offering updated facilities for Major League Baseball. For most of the 20th century and into the early 21st, the Yankees played at the original Yankee Stadium. That ballpark hosted the team’s home games from 1923 to 1973 and again from 1976 to 2008, making it one of the most recognizable venues in professional sports.
Its long run tied many of the club’s historic moments to that specific corner of the Bronx. During a two-season stretch in the mid-1970s, the Yankees temporarily left their traditional home while the original Yankee Stadium was being renovated. In 1974 and 1975, they shared Shea Stadium with the New York Mets, along with the New York Jets and New York Giants.
Once the renovation was complete, the Yankees returned to the original Yankee Stadium before ultimately transitioning to the new facility that opened in 2009.
As a member of the American League East Division, the New York Yankees play a full slate of road games across Major League Baseball in addition to their home schedule at Yankee Stadium. Their regular-season travel takes them to other American League parks as well as National League venues during interleague play.
Within New York City, the Yankees’ most notable alternate ballpark is Citi Field in Queens, home of the New York Mets. The two clubs meet there for games when the Yankees are designated as the visiting team, adding a cross-borough element to their schedule beyond their usual home in the Bronx.
The Yankees’ divisional and league commitments send them to a range of American League stadiums. Trips to places like Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg and Fenway Park in Boston are regular parts of the calendar, reflecting long-running league and divisional matchups. Road series in Chicago at Guaranteed Rate Field and in Anaheim at Angel Stadium extend that pattern across different regions.
Interleague play introduces additional variety, with visits to National League parks such as Chase Field in Phoenix and Petco Park in San Diego. These series give fans in markets outside the American League a chance to see the Yankees in person, while also adding different ballpark backdrops to the team’s season.
Across all of these venues, Yankee Stadium remains the anchor of the franchise’s identity, but the broader MLB schedule ensures that the team appears in ballparks around the country throughout the year.
